Survivors
A skeleton row of trees marks the edge of one of the recent fires in San Mateo County; we lived with the smoke and heard the sirens, but this is the first time I've seen the blackened fields and branches along the highway where the flames jumped a couple months ago.
We had an adventure today--we left home!! how little it takes to satisfy me any more. A short drive up the coast to Pescadero, thirty miles, usually just a blip on the screen as we zoom up to SF. San Francisco--it sounds like a dream--haven't been to the city for maybe a year, and zoom itself now has a completely different meaning. But the town of Pescadero was indeed our destination, I think it's the farthest we've been since the original lockdown. We split a sandwich and sat at a picnic table provided by the town, walked up and down the quiet little main street. Not a lot of folks about, and everyone we saw wore a mask. It felt a little bit like a black and white sci-fi movie, the one where they've taken over the town. It was the most ordinary day, and the most extraordinary.
A little outing goes a long way, even if you only go a short way.
The Extra is Pigeon Point lighthouse.
