Time Is Running Out
Where to start... Businesses can't properly prepare because they still don't know exactly what the new export/import rules will be, with just over a month to go. New paperwork will be complex and take time to get to grips with - time they don't have. Of course they could use a customs broker, but there aren't nearly enough in the country.
Border chaos and subsequent food/medicines/consumer goods shortages are inevitable due to leaving the customs union without the proper infrastructure in place at ports. HM Inland Revenue And Customs doesn't have enough staff, so work is being outsourced to India and Eastern Europe. Oh the irony.
The company writing software to manage the moment of goods between Northern Ireland and the UK has repeatedly warned that systems cannot be in place in time.
Brexit was always a bad idea, however if it had been approached pragmatically its consequences could have been minimised. As things are, the Westminster government are deliberately pursuing a policy that means Brexit will hit us like a tonne of bricks.
