Crosskeys Bridge
This fabulous swing bridge, which allows the A17 to cross the River Nene at Sutton Bridge, was built to replace two earlier bridges, the first of which was designed by Thomas Telford and John Rennie in 1831.
This latest bridge carried both road and rail traffic until the railway ceased to be in 1959. It now carries two carriageways East and West.
To me, it always means one of my brief sojourns in East Anglia is over going this way, whilst meaning the start of the interminable flat-lands going the other.
