Booties

So pleased to have found these, safely tucked away at the back of a cupboard. They are a pair of newborn baby’s booties, lovingly hand-embroidered with the badge of the Guild of Motoring Writers. They were presented to me by my successor when I completed my term of office as Guild chairman, a few months before the birth of my son. Tom Leake, the incoming chairman, had served in the merchant navy before becoming a motoring writer, and had learned the delicate art of embroidery to pass the time during long days at sea. What a wonderful piece of the Guild’s history!
