Early morning frosty walk

Sometimes on a walk you come across random things and wonder what the story was behind them. This sole of a shoe was just such a thing. Why was it abandoned/discarded/dumped.?  I am sure there must be some tale attached to this sole of a shoe but how it ended up on the bank of the Louth canal miles from anywhere is anybody's guess!
