Home time

We had a funny time hauling an ergonomic mattress across the city today! We had a ten minute walk and short tube ride with it. It was an irresistible bargain at 40 euros from someone who is moving out of Lisbon.
We are experts at taking furniture on public transport now. Do you remember seeing pictures of those inflatable boats from Munich? We used to carry those home by four people balancing the still inflated boat directly on our heads, desert water-carrier style. Ror and I used the same approach and trounced through the city with the queen size mattress perched on our heads. The fight comes when one person decides not to use their arms. The other person cannot then take their arms away without dropping the mattress, so frustratingly must tire their arms out keeping the mattress in the right place. Every time we get to an escalator and get it back on our heads, you have to be the first one to put your arms down, thereby forcing the other person to keep their arms up!
Another funny issue is of course who is at the front vs. back, particularly when going up and down the hills and steps of Lisbon. Big discussions of where the taller person should go (obviously behind). Finally we had many funny situations moving around narrow streets and street furniture, where front person thinks they’ve avoided a mattress-pole collision but they haven’t. Oh the joys of not having a vehicle!!
