I don't remember much chat of planets in the sky when I was small, though we popped outside to see Halley's comet when it came by. Even though I appreciate the relative sizes and distances now it's still mightily impressive that things can be seen from so far away, though they would have been much more easily seen when I was small and the amount of streetlights in my immediate vicinity was much lower.
