Rusty object

This was beached with the two homes that I blipped in my other journal. I've only seen it in the water before and was interested to have a closer look today. I'm not familiar with boats and marine objects, so if anyone knows what this is, please let me know! G thinks it might be a marker or a buoy or ...?
