NoALLERTON
I have passed this sign a number of times and wanted to get a shot of it. I love how Northallerton has been abbreviated, I'm more familiar with north being shown as Nth.
These wayside mileage posts are Grade II listed and some 620 of them were commissioned in the late 1890's by the then North Riding County Council. Made of 6" thick cast iron they are at least 2 feet into the ground.
This one is in the small village of Ainderby Steeple, St Helen's Church is in the background. I had to choose my angle carefully to avoid showing the dog waste bin that has been placed next to it...
