Change in the landscape
A total of 18 trees were cut down on the property today, which might give the appearance of undermining my environmentalist credentials.
The fact is, they had to go. Some were dead and diseased, others had seeded themselves too near the house and were a hazard in these days of extreme weather and bush fires.
And so now there is a big pile of mulch (that will probably take six months to spread around the garden), and several piles of firewood for the winter.
A possum box also needs to be relocated to a live tree as its previous host has now been reduced to wood chip. There didn't appear to be any occupants, but I'm sure it'll come in handy for any itinerant marsupials.
