Snow Joke
I was very surprised to find a reasonable amount of snow had fallen when I got up this morning. Annoyingly I’d been lying awake since 4.30 and might have got up earlier had I known. Just as I was leaving the house, my work mate text to ask if I could pick her up on my way through saffron Walden. I edged down the Lane and out into the high street and there i sat for about 40 minutes in stationary traffic. I eventually got out of the village and drive slowly along the village roads then completely lost control of the car in little Walden, skated elegantly across the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic, I hit the brakes which juddered a lot but failed to stop the car, steered like a loony back into the correct side of the road, slid up the verge and stopped about a cm from a lamp post. It felt like 5 minutes of terror but was probably 5 seconds. I was also mortified because I had a stream of traffic behind me and I couldn’t get going again straight away. I eventually picked up sally only to get turned around in Newport because the road was flooded, drove miles out of the way, through 5 more floods and eventually got to school 2 hours after I’d set off.
By lunchtime the school field and our outdoor area were knee deep in water and it was lapping at the classroom door.
We are keeping an eye on the river in our garden as there is more rain forecast tonight and tomorrow.
I was VERY pleased to get home tonight.
