Yer Man With His Yeller Van
This is my very first attempt at street photography. I had walked down to the high street in my village (Aylesford) and when I saw that the van had stopped I waited until the driver got out and the took this image.
I was feeling disappointed with myself after my early morning run as I had failed to overcome my footbridge phobia. There is a pedestrian footbridge over the M20 motorway just yards from my home but for some reason I cannot seem to cross it - the fast moving traffic under my feet gives me a bad case of the collywobbles. I used to be able to do it all the time as a kid but for some reason it seems to have become a problem as I have got (much) older. Strange! I have promised myself to make another attempt soon. Taking this image raised my spirits as I had managed my first attempt at this type of photography.
My second image is of a tiny desk which appears to have been discarded outside our local recreation ground. I love the red stickers across the front with what appears to be a slogan - Mee Yoe Need U. As soon as I saw this a 1980's pop song started playing in my head - Yah Mo Be There sung by James Ingram and Michael McDonald (one of the most underrated singers of the 80's for me). I think some of the lyrics could also apply to the present time:
Never be lonely, lost in the night
Just run from the darkness looking for the light
'Cause it's a long hard road
That leads to a brighter day, hey
Don't let your heart grow cold
