Things are looking up for HMV
This was taken inside the Cambridge branch of HMV. Following another round of closures this week it seems that the Cambridge store will stay until a buyer is found (or until the administrators decide to close it).
I hope it stays open not least of all because it is in a fantastic building.
The Internet says..
'Laurie & McConnell opened in 1883 and before that it was a drapery, china and hardware shop of Samuel Young. The building was almost destroyed by fire in 1903, but repairs began almost at once and this led to the erection of the little bandstand, which is still at the top of the building.'
If you get a chance to go in, look up. You might want to buy something while you are there.
The alternative today was a shot of Orchard St, built apparently to house the servants of some rich folks who lived across the road (not anymore they don't). The reason none of these houses have upstairs windows was apparently to stop the staff looking into the masters house!
