Hope springs eternal

I don’t think they’ve quite understood the meaning of this. I checked in the dictionary and it says ‘said when you continue to hope that something will happen, although it seems unlikely’. Both our mums used to say it to me and MrM when we were longing for the impossible.
I hope it’s likely that COVID-19 can beaten now we have a vaccine.
