Be prepared

They look rather repellent, but they’re only ear plugs.
 
Last night we had a frog in the drainpipe under our window. I don’t remember all that much of my long-ago Classical studies, but I do remember  that the playwright Aristophanes wrote a comedy The Frogs, in which there is a chorus of frogs who croak ‘Brekekekex, koax, koax’.
 
Our frog evidently hasn’t had a classical education, and he just goes ‘Boom’ very loudly, at regular and hypnotic intervals. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I could hear him, so I got the ear plugs ready, just in case. Fortunately we didn’t hear him during the night, so we didn’t need them. But always best to be prepared.
