Tight squeeze in #Edinburgh

They may be nearing extinction in England, but there seems to be no shortage of good old-fashioned telephone boxes in central Edinburgh. These three are on the Royal Mile not far from where we are staying.

The boxes here have a particular claim to fame. In August 2003, members of a theatre company and volunteers broke the world record by squeezing into one of these red telephone boxes.

At the first attempt, 12 people crammed into the phone box, equalling a record, set in Germany in 1997. But a second attempt saw 14 people, including two children, squeeze into the box over a 10-minute spell.

The last telephone box I used in England smelled like a lavatory. I couldn't imagine anyone staying inside for 10 seconds never mind 14 people for 10 minutes.
