Acrobatic House Finch
We see House Finches all year round. They like the sunflower seeds we put in the feeder and often arrive as a noisy twittering family on summer days. Originally from Mexico and South Western States, they were illegally sold as "Hollywood Finches" in New York City in the 40s. Dealers and owners subsequently released them into the wild to avoid prosecution and the birds adapted to the East coast. They are now common across the country.
Yesterday's snow had an icy crust this morning so clearing it from the drive was time consuming but the sun helped and so did the snowblower. It's amazing how far that thing can throw chunks of ice if you are not careful.
