The Flying Burrito Bros

Founded by ex-Byrds Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Bros produced one classic album, The Gilded Palace of Sin in 1969. Hillman was the steady hand on the tiller, while Parsons was a rich kid with a trust fund who exuded charm and irresponsibllity in equal measure. His one undeniable musical contribution was to fuse country music with rhythm & blues, a result he termed ‘Cosmic American Music.’ Parsons and Hillman together with bassist Chris Ethridge, wrote the songs. Unusually 'Sneaky' Pete Kleinow's echoing pedal steel guitar was the lead instrument. By the time of The Last of the Red Hot Burritos in 1972, Gram was long gone, and the band had taken on more of a bluegrass flavour. The FBB didn’t get much commercial success in their time, but undeniably they paved the way for the likes of The Eagles later on.

PS The outfits are called ‘Nudie Suits,’ because they were made by the famous country music tailor, Nudie Cohen.
