Maintaining a safe distance
The graceful arc on long slender legs is the A249 Sheppey Crossing, and the four chunky posts are Sheppey Way, a.k.a Kingsferry Bridge. Both cross the Swale between the Isle of Sheppey (on the left) and mainland Kent (on the right). The less graceful of the two also carries the railway.
The Isle of Sheppey contains three prisons as well as some relatively isolated communities of people free to come and go as they please. It is this remote and lawless island that is receiving most of the blame for the entire county being in Tier 3.
I took this photograph from the waterfront at Upnor, 15.4km away. I couldn't see the truck with the naked eye.
