Those eyes
What is it that when I come to Sweden I am inspired to go out and take photos?
Maybe in South Africa we drive too much. Here it is walking and public transport. People don't ask for money (well they do but not many of them). Maybe it's just being in the city.
I did a photography course last year in Cape Town and I remember the teacher commenting about how ugly the down town was (maybe he said softer words than that), he didn't just meant the buildings, he meant the people we saw, who were all out to try and make some money from the tourists. This seemed odd given how beautiful Cape Town is -- it's one of the most beautiful places in the world -- but he was right, the downtown area is ugly and the people were mostly uninteresting to photograph. We did find some colourful characters just outside the city.
I guess that's the difference in Stockholm. I saw dozens of interesting characters and scenes on my way to the office this morning. With the grey dull weather the buildings and people are dressed in colour which make the city so interesting.
As a note to myself, I have to learn to lift the camera to my eye and take pictures. I am still scared to do so and instead set everything to manual on the camera and then hold the camera at waist level. I was looking in the eye of the person blipped above and too this shot with that technique. I'm glad it came out.
