Woman in natural habitat
Today's John Muir Award session was pretty good fun. The project part of the award for us is Dormouse preservation and so today we headed off to do a Dormouse survey for one of the local conservation groups. Unfortunately we didn't spot any Dormice but we did what we set out to do which was to collect semi-eaten hazelnuts ready to check for marks so that we can discover which animal has gnawed at them. We did find some deer footprints though, which was also fun. The girls were pretty dramatic and hilarious as we were taking them up a pretty steep hill, most of them suggesting that they were going to die.
"I'm an only child! If I die who will carry on my bloodline?".
I'm grateful today for Becci: for her love of the outdoors; her passion for communicating with young people and wisdom in matching the two.
Mentoring today was good and hard in equal measures. Anyone who's worked with young people will know the frustration of being able to easily recognise all the good things about a young person, while they simply refuse to believe that any of these good things said about them might actually be true. A work in progress with this one, but I'm in it for the long haul.
Ended the day with some chores at the office. I remember when I used to love Fridays at work and the beginning of the weekend. 2020 has definitely robbed me of that joy.
