Uncle Bill and Aunt Nan

Today's the day ………………………. to say goodbye

We had some sad news today that my Uncle Bill - pictured here in 1977 - had died.

I suppose that because he was well into his 90s and he was in a Care Home in a large conurbation meant that he was particularly vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic.  But all the same, the news of his death has made us all feel keenly, the loss of a much-loved man.

He and my Aunt Nan (my Mother's younger sister) were always hugely supportive of everything I ever did - and you could always be sure of a warm welcome if ever you called in to see them.  The picture above was taken in Cambridge, just before they took Will and I out for a meal.  We were penniless students back in those days - so it was indeed a treat.  The bag of goodies (including a whole chicken!) that they brought with them was also very welcome.

Uncle Bill was the very last one of that generation of our family to remain, so it's particularly sad that he has gone.  But his generosity and kindness - and that twinkle in the eye - will remain in the memory of all that knew him …………………….
