Santa Lucia

The night of Saint Lucia, between 12 and 13 December, is the longest night.

It is tradition (in Lodi area and in other provinces of Lombardy) that children write a letter to Santa Lucia asking for toys. The Saint brings the gifts with a donkey, so the children leave some hay and biscuits outside the door. Adults ring a bell outside the houses to warn that Saint Lucia is coming and therefore the children must go to bed.

La notte di Santa Lucia, tra il 12 e il 13 Dicembre, è la notte più lunga che ci sia. 

E' tradizione (nel Lodigiano e in altre province della Lombardia) che i bambini scrivano una letterina a Santa Lucia per chiedere dei giochi. La tradizione vuole che la Santa porti i doni con l'asinello, quindi i bambini lasciano fuori dalla porta del fieno e dei biscotti. Gli adulti suonano un campanellino fuori dalle case per avvisare che Santa Lucia sta arrivando e quindi i bambini devono andare a letto.
