Moss, Lichen and Bushtit

Usually I see large groups of the Bushtits at the suet feeder, but yesterday they started attacking this tree with the moss and lichen. They seemed to be digging in the moss and finding something to eat in there, I wonder why they are finding something in there now and not before.   There are a lot of things about nature that is puzzling.

Just as darkness arrived we drove into our friend's long driveway in the West Hills; yard was lavishly decorated with Christmas light, it was beautiful. This friend has a very large Christmas party every year; this year was very different, it was a "drive thru" party. There were several stations along the way with treats and hot chocolate and then a greeting from our friends and their daughter. But the visit with the car in front of us was very long; perhaps it was someone they hadn't seen for a long time.The party was nice, but nothing like an in the home party party with an amazing buffet. Yes, there was a box of buffet type finger food and sweet treats......but being able to visit in person with lots of our friends makes a Christmas Party extra fun. Maybe next year we will be back indoor visiting as we always have.
