Glove making - from the 1500s
This is Williams Shakespeare's birthplace and this is his dads workshop where he made gloves in the 1500s. A farmers wages then was £3 a year and a pair of gloves then co £3!!!! Many farmers bought only one glove! Also a woman who had the money to buy white gloves always wore them! In the summer and thy were too hot to wear them they tucked them in their pocket so everyone could see it! It's as if they were the 1500s designer bag ( but gloves!)
