Apples Straight Up, East Malling
Today's walk was out to East Malling Research Station, which is a horticultural and agricultural research institution specialising in fruit. The site was originally established back in 1913 and some of the original buildings are still in use today. It has achieved worldwide recognition for developments in areas of plant raising, fruit breeding and control of pests and diseases.
Luckily there are several public footpaths through the site and you can catch glimpses of some of the experimental fruit crops that are being grown. Today's image is one of these crops - apples are being grown on tall and straight rootstock instead of the usual type of tree.
It was still early when I went for my walk so I managed to get some morning light highlighting the branches and picking out the red apples. You can also just about see the church of St James The Great in East Malling village in the background.
