Give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day. But teach a man about fishing quotas and he can use that issue to rewire the entire economy in the interests of offshore capital for a generation.

^this one has been doing the rounds on social media recently so I thought I’d share. James was under the impression — not unreasonably — that fish would at least be cheaper and more plentiful after Brexit. So sadly, I had to explain the reality to him that it’s only rubbish fish like herring that might get cheaper, and that actually all the stuff we like gets imported.

Also Mum I know what you’re thinking, and yes, there was a big portion of veg in a separate bowl.
