Busy clinical day. One mahoosive chalazion which I had a good go at with forceps but wasn’t for shifting. REFER
Then a return patient from last week, only symptom progressively worsening glare in right eye. Spotted what we call a split reflex on retinoscopy and an increasing astigmatism on refraction... suspect corneas so popped him on this wonderful corneal topography toy that I bullied my boss into bringing from another practice.
Bingo!
The photo above should be a boring sea of green, instead we have a mountain of red. Not good.
As suspected keratoconus an inherited disorder of the cornea which thins forming a cone. Can be dangerous and lead to corneal perforation so needs managed. REFER warned him not google Kerry Katona as that would offer up far more horrific photos :))))
Days like these are rather satisfying!
