"Keep Austin Weird"

That memorable slogan was adopted by the Austin Independent Business Alliance a few years ago to promote independent, locally-owned businesses, but it applies equally well to this large house -- more of a compound, than a house -- that we saw today on a walk.

Clearly inhabited by artistic owners, it stood out in a neighborhood of eclectic homes. None of the other houses had a garage quite like this one, for example. (You can see the extent of the homestead by noting that the red at the far right of the photo above is this garage.)

Nearby was this sign -- not something I'd see in my own city.

My sister and I do travel with special protection in her car, however, as seen here.
