CINEREOUS VULTURE

The Cinereous Vulture (Aegypius monachus) a.k.a. Black Vulture, Monk Vulture, Eurasian Vulture, is considered to be the largest vulture in the world. Females can be as large as 31 pounds (14 kg); males as large as 25 pounds (11 kg). Its species population is considered to be Threatened. It is native to Eurasia.

Our zoo in Milwaukee is the only zoo world-wide that has successfully bred this species in captivity. They trade species to zoos around the world to build breeding populations in the hope that some individuals can be released to the wild in the future.
