Icy Sunrise
This morning was especially chilly with a low of -15C. Everything had a covering of ice crystals which shone and twinkled in the early sunlight. The air is so dry the snow cover is slowly evaporating rather than melting. Venturing outside first thing was only for the hardy.
If you used to work for National Grid you will appreciate the pole transformer which provides our electricity. In contrast to Europe, North America uses 220 V center-tapped secondary windings and the center neutral wire is grounded resulting in 110 V for most devices or 220 V for the more powerful appliances like the clothes dryer or the electric kettle.
For everyone else: Overhead power lines maybe cheap to install but are certainly not pretty and are always in the way of a good photo. When it snows heavily, breaking tree branches can bring down these power lines. One the upside the roads and pavements are not always getting dug up.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
