Road trip

Recent insomnia So wide awake again at 3.30am. Gave in. Picked up the phone. Wahay. prodigal son also awake in the next room
Pssst. Wanna go on a road trip? Meet you downstairs at 4am
So we tiptoed out and headed to the new M and S which was open 24 hours. I needed a Turkey crown to be Christmas ready, this was a quest, a fun adventure, I told him. As we drove I quietly congratulated myself on combining paternal bonding with a big tick on the Christmas to do list.
Excellent, lots of parking
Sprayed our trolley and merrily tripped up to the lit up hallows waiting to be greeted with fawning grateful staff.
Deary me, automatic doors not opening? We did a little stepping dance to find the right pressure pad. Nope. Okay let’s just try the handles. Nope
Rapped on the door and after five minutes of persistent smiling and gesticulation, got a bewildered member of staff to come and open up for us, fully confident that those breakfast Percy Pigs would soon be lol mine.
Instead, he said get a life we don’t open til 7. I let out a little impatient sigh
But the t’internet says 24 hours?
Yup that’s from 7am, THIS morning

So. like a bizarre crazy cougar lady, I dragged my 20 year old prey away. Who was consoling who? I don’t know... I muttered, repeatedly ‘ but the t’inetrnet says’, giving a whole new life lesson to the boy, probably, stay away from menopausal mothers.

Then the real Mary and Joseph situation kicked in.

Now, at McDonalds, circled through the drive thru, twice and then harangued some staff outside having their fag break, how do I get in?? Directed to the drive thru windows .. they seemed to be laughing, at what, I don’t know ?
So found someone to help but strangely they weren’t serving Celebrations McFlurrys at 4.30am, and yet again we had to get back on the donkey our little heads bowed.

Thankfully the benign green innkeeper of Asda let us shop in his barn and seventy pounds lighter we left, happy, Christmas, tick!
Although no Turkey

After that, returning home at 5.20am, Saturday was somewhat uneventful
