Gulls...

...at the Lakefront and what a beautiful day to spend some time there. The water looked so pretty with that deep, deep blue; the sun is out, & even though it's just a tad above freezing it didn't feel that bad. This main blip is of a couple of ring billed gulls. The first extra is a herring gull; it looks much like the ring billed gulls except it's bill is bright yellow with a spot of orange under the bottom of the bill, and the second extra is of a gull carrying a big chunk of a stale bun--one of about half a dozen dumped in the parking lot by some ill informed well meaning person. 
The bread has no nutritional value for the gulls (or any other bird for that matter) and can actually cause health issues for them if they come to rely on it. You can tell the bun-wielding gull is a young one by it's color, but even more by it's actions. It carried the bun to the edge of the water where all the other gulls were, causing a "feeding frenzy" and the bun was quickly taken away from it by about 6 adult gulls who were all fighting over it. Poor thing--it was nice it wanted to share, or perhaps it wanted to show off--but I hope it learned a lesson! If you're a gull and you want to eat, stay away from the crowds!   LOL
The Packers won last evening--yay!--but it was a good thing they were ahead at half-time, as the offense was pretty apathetic the entire second half. Thankfully the defense was NOT apathetic and saved the team from a loss. :)
