Houghton Main Colliery - Winding Wheel
The winding wheel plaque reads
1873 - 1993 This winding wheel was erected as a memorial to all men and boys who were killed at Houghton Main Colliery. Also, to all miners and their families who suffered hardship and grief in their pursuit of coal.
The last explosion took place on 6.6.1975.
