Lion Vase

Another very cold day but bright and sunny. Decided to go for a brisk walk to Regent's Park in my lunch break.

As it is half-term, there were lots of families enjoying the avenue gardens and looking at the fountains.

This is the Lion (or Griffin) Tazza also called the Lion Vase. The sun was catching the pale stone of the lions and the statues really stood out. According to the Royal Parks website, the Lion Tazza is a large circular stone bowl supported by four winged stone lions. It was installed in the Italian-style Avenue Gardens by William Andrews Nesfield. It was designed by Austin and Seeley in 1863 and is one of about 30 stone vases in the Avenue Gardens. It was repaired when the gardens were restored in 1993-1996.

There were several people feeding the squirrels and lots of joggers in the park. There were some lovely displays of cyclamen and crocuses that could almost make you think that Spring might be on its way.
