Lorna's family's house in Sheffield (2020)

Lorna lived in Sheffield from the age of 11 in 1925 until 1933 when she left home for university (as noted in the text of the blip of 23rd November 2020). It was here that she wrote, drew, and painted many of the creations that feature in this journal, including the pencil drawing of the Virgin Mary blipped yesterday.

As was the case with Raglan House in Malvern (where Lorna wrote her war diary entries), we had hoped that we might have been able to visit Sheffield and photograph the family house there at some point over the past few months. Unfortunately, this has not been possible. However, a friend who has just moved to Sheffield has kindly taken these two shots on our behalf instead.

Regular followers of Lorna's blip journal will recognise the house from the two pictures above. Check, for example the 1926 photograph of Lorna, her brother Theo, and their mother Topsie in front of the house with the family car blipped on 8th September 2020, and its partner photographed at the gate blipped the following day.

We put the left hand 2020 shot above into black and white as an experiment to see whether it would 'pass' for 1926. It hasn't changed that much.
