Chapter Two

Mariposa Monarca

Today was the last day to see this magical creature. Horses again took us to see the awakening in the Piedra Herrada Sanctuary. We hiked down into thick vegetation to witness the huge clusters of Monarchs be warmed by the sun and fly away into the forest.
The best was stopping on the highway after our visit to see thousands and thousands of the butterflies swarming down the road toward a source of water. You have to see it to believe it...!
Later in the day we traveled to see a volcano and lakes in the crater. More than 12,400 feet up. After the van stopped, we hiked the rest of the way. An arduous climb but totally worth it. Picnic lunch at the rim of the crater. Very very beautiful and peaceful. Another great day. I am so blessed to have the family I have and to have so many of them join me to experience this wondrous happening .
