Gallery to close

The Changing Room gallery in Stirling, the only one offering contemporary art in central Scotland, will close at the end of March.

The council announced the withdrawn of their funding, part of the current budget cuts.

Those of us who attended Stirling Council meeting on Thursday night were dismayed at the level of petty political points being scored- as if it was a game- between the Scottish National Party and the Tory/Labour coalition.

Is this how decisions are made on our behalf? It was a shocking insight into our so-called democratic process.

Artists in Stirling area are appalled. It looks as if Stirling Council, never a great supporter of the arts, is simply going to hand the provision of contemporary art over to volunteers.

Not one councillor spoke up in defence of the arts in the area! as members of the public we were not allowed to speak.

Whatever happened to the grandiose scheme of a few years ago to build a purpose-built arts centre to compliment the status of Stirling as a city?
