New Old Bridge
A great day's walking with my walking buddy Gary, and his retriever Dexter. Around nine miles overall, walking from home through Perton woods, Codsall and Oaken, with lunch at the church in Codsall and a little history tour for Gary who does not hail from these parts. We visited Mill House, a 17th century wind mill now a million pound private residence. I showed him my mother's grave and the grave of a young local man who was killed on active service in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, and we stopped at the Grade ll listed station in Codsall to see the new old bridge. The footbridge was damaged when hit by a crane in 2005, and subsequently collapsed. It was originally built in 1883, and after the accident about 70% of the wrought iron span was reusable. Rebuilt and reopened in 2007 it continues to serve foot traffic using the two platforms of this wonderful old station. The station house has been renovated and is no longer used as a station. It is now home to an award winning CAMRA public house, hosting an annual beer festival which is a huge attraction for locals and visitors who travel to taste the range of tipples on offer.
Got home tired, muddy and gagging for a cuppa. Great day.
Thanks for all the comments and stars for yesterday.
Have a peaceful and happy Christmas!
