Seven Roofs House Memmingen
Still my favourite building in town, badly damaged towards the end of the war on 20th April 1945 by American bombs attacking the airport just a kilometre or two away from the town centre. In the extra a number of other buildings in town. About 30% of Memmingen's buildings were destroyed & many buildings could not be saved, but the new builds were often done in the same style.
I was in Memmingen for an appointment with an eye doc specialist. Angie had had an eye problem about a month ago and had made the appointment for herself but shortly afterwards eyes were so irritated that she simply took off for the emergency/weekend GP service went to the weekend/out of hours GP service attached to Memmingen hospital on a Friday afternoon, but they couldn't help suggesting an eye doc who had a surgery Friday evening for "emergency" cases in Kempten, half an hour away. So she took off & although had to wait an hour got seen to & cream & drops given (this is all part of national health system & doesn't cost anything)
In the meantime, I must have picked up the same bug so instead of cancelling her no longer needed appointment, I went in her place. Not very pleasant - relatively small or rather narrow, tight surgery rooms, keeping social distance possible but only just, constantly being called up for various test by the hoard of assistants then sent back to the waiting room which at times was full & waiting in a narrow corridor. Eventually saw doc, he reckons simply dry eyes but was very happy with my eyesight - I had taken the readings from my last test 10 years ago & nothing had changed. Was glad to get out and into the fresh air in town.
By the way, the Seven Roofs House was used for drying leather after tanning. The wooden slatted "windows" could be opened to let air circulate. Memmingen was a big leather tanning town in medieval times.
