a lifetime burning

The Frosty End to 2020

I don't think there will be many of us sorry to see the back of 2020 as it has been a challenging year in so many ways.  But at least the weather we've had during these last few days has been great for being outdoors.

Cathy and I really enjoyed our walk in the fresh air this morning, although the task of negotiating the very slippy pavements and roads to get to the nearby fields was rather tricky. Once off road, all was well and we made it there and back without anyone falling or injuring themselves.

When it is cold and crisp walking outdoors across the frozen fields in the morning is such a joy. The hoar frost sparkled on the vegetation adding a layer of photographic interest to familiar scenes.  I've limited myself to one extra showing the impact of the frost in close up.

In a normal year we would be looking forward to the New Years Eve party hosted by some good friends.  Instead we will have a much more sedate evening, just the two of us.  New Year's Day normally starts with our meeting the same friends for a walk to clear away the cobwebs which ends up at a cheery country pub with a roaring fire and pints of beer. This is then followed with a hearty meal of chilli con carne at one of our homes when we get back.  Its not going to be quite the same tomorrow, but hopefully if we can all survive the next 6 months things will slowly be starting to allow the resumption of such socialising.

I don't intend making any resolutions this New Year, but as the old year leaves and the new one arrives I do wish you all the very best for a healthy and happy new year wherever you are.
