Glass box with cat carving
A still-life today of a little glass box (4x4in.) which I bought in a craft shop a long time ago, matched up with a hand-carved wooden cat ornament. It came from the Loch Fyne Tree Shop in Argyll (between Loch Lomond and Inveraray) which, as well as trees, sells a beautiful array of decorative objects made from local wood. I liked the contrast between the curves of the leaping cat and the straight lines of the box.
The delicate etchings on the glass box used to be full of colour but these have faded with exposure to light in our conservatory. However I still enjoy looking at the workmanship that has gone into the box construction and the delicate outlines of bluebells, spiders' webs and primroses. To complete a feeling of lightness I have applied a mild matte effect.
