Bird of prey

I was surprised to see this bird in my backyard this morning. I think it is a red-shouldered hawk but I am not sure. It is only when I downloaded the shots that I realized that he had a little bird in his talons. I thought it was totally disgusting but this is his nature and that's the way it should be - still, I feel sad for the little bird :(
