Tissue-fire hit
To Edinburgh Cineworld with EdiSteve to see Song for Marion, starring Vanessa Redgrave, Terence Stamp, Christopher Ecclestone and Gemma Arterton. You likely know it's about Marion, terminally ill but finding joy as a local choir member, and emotionally repressed husband Arthur. He's estranged from son James, while singing teacher Elizabeth wrangles the pack of pensioners into singing the likes of Let's Talk About Sex and Ace of Spades.
There are laughs, but mostly I wept. Buckets. Seriously, the script hits all the right emotional notes and the acting is phenomenal. I nearly Blipped the sodden, snotty hankie Steve and I were passing between us, but decided against it.
And - BONUS! - it was filmed around Gateshead and my home county, Durham. Have a trailer!
