Normally Germans would be reaching for their jars of pickled North Sea herrings - Rollmops - or soused herrings - Matjes. However, as we in the EU learnt last night, we aren't allowed fish anymore.
Honey is excellent for reducing alcohol and I have plenty, plus fresh fruit and yoghurt. A good alternative to fish.
However on opening the fridge noted a certain aroma and saw a Camembert and Brie bought prior to Christmas were plotting a Briexit. Luckily had all the ingredients to make a Bavarian (EU's PGI protected product) Obatzda.
With running text comments from a UK friend I haven't seen or spoken to for 46 years, whacked in cream cheese, butter, sweet paprika powder, carraway seeds and a splash or two of Wheatbeer, mashing it all up into a lumpy .... Batzen ... Clump, pile, load.
Sadly no fresh pretzels on public holiday but still with day old fiery pretzel like stick and some celery, tasted wonderful.
There followed a serious sofa afternoon watching crazed young men throw themselves off a mountain in Garmisch. Wonder if you need to be drunk to do that?
