Coronation Tree

This elm was planted on Crosby Ravensworth Fell in 1937 to mark the coronation of George VI. The hawthorn seems to have planted itself in amongst the limestone pavement. In the distance, on the left, you can see High Cup Nick, Paula country. I suspect it was pretty busy up there. We barely saw anyone at all.
We had a lovely walk up Slack Randy (I have absolutely no idea) on a beautifully crispy white frozen path beyond the trees up to the trig point and looked across to an almost empty M6 and then made our way back again.
Like my regular walking spot, up above Ullswater, this area is so wonderfully rich and resonant of past lives which can feel both sobering and grounding.
Wishing everyone well as we head into the coming year.
