Polar Koala .....2/1/21

One of those days again .
A hard frost this morning . First problem was the McCormick tractor with all the feeding on it refused to start in the cold. So had to jump start it with the booster . A lot of faffing around trying to get the battery box lid off thanks to all the frozen mud on it, then one of the crock clips on the booster snapped so had to tape it all together enough to eventually get the engine cranking .
Once everything was fed spent an hour or more with 2 kettles defrosting all the frozen water bowls so cattle could get a drink. And walking across the yard , which is like an ice rink ,with a kettle in each hand wasn’t fun either.
By lunch time I had more or less got everything going to plan but there was another cow calved last night , and of course the calf hadn’t sucked , so more faffing about getting them both round to the cattle crush , milking her out and eventually managed to get the calf to suck a front tit. At one point both me and the calf were doing some kind of mad ice dance where we both ended up on our arse. Good job no one was watching.
Went for a walk before it got dark with Mrs F, Littlemiss and 2 dogs. My old collie still hanging on but can only get from her bed out the door to the yard and back in again. She hasn’t eaten anything all week despite me trying lots of things, even a jar of baby food ! She eats snow and drinks water but think that’s her telling me the end is neigh .
Littlemiss was sporting her koala hat against the cold.
