Mediaeval Field Systems

We have had snow, sun and rain at various points throughout today. At whilst remaining cold, it is a little above freezing so the snow quickly became slush. It didn't stop the children from sledging on the steeper hills. We walked across Willow Bridge (the old, stone, packhorse bridge) to the other side of the valley so we could look back at the fields we normally walk across. The fields are long and narrow enclosed by stone walls that were constructed almost 300 years ago, following the lines of the mediaeval fields systems of strip farming. I wanted to get some alternative images of these fields to complete my submission for the RPS Contemporary Group 20/20 Photo Book. The snow helps to show up the walls more clearly, but the low cloud and mist hides the top ridge.
We have taken down most of the Christmas decorations but have left the ivy and holly draping since it feels quite appropriate for the winter, if a little pagan.
