Olympic rings at Portland
Penultimate day of our hols and we took a drive up to the hill to HMP Verne Portland. A really austere looking place at the top of the hill with massive gates. Mum would have loved it, she had a thing about prisons for some reason. This one is now a sex offenders unit housing filth such as Gary Glitter. We walked up to the old citisel overlooking our apartment. A fantastic view.
We then drive over the hill to a hotel with amazing views over Chesil beach with the olympic rings carved out of Portland stone as the sailing was here for the 2012 olympics.
On the way home we parked up in a small car park down the road from our apartment as it looked to be near the harbour. We walked down the harbour path and it was alive with kids learning to paddle board, surfing shops and a lovely restaurant we had dinner in. We could have sat there all day.
Walking back to the car we stopped to watch a coastguard helicoptor pilot run through various landings across the harbour. It flew over our heads so low the noise was deafening. I loved it.
