New Year Plant Hunt Day 1

Today was all about urban botany, as Pete and I participated in the annual BSBI New year Plant Hunt. Although this street looks an unlikely venue for botanising, a surprisingly large number of both native and neophyte species can be found in towns and villages, particularly in pavement cracks, at the base of garden walls, in gutters and in odd unloved corners, as well as in more obvious places such as parks, churchyards and cemeteries. Today we found forty species in flower in Stamford, as well as a stunning range of ferns on the old limestone walls of the town.
